SUPPORTING SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE ON THE NORTH SHORE: The North Shore’s agricultural lands can support a variety of small, medium and large operations and a variety of crops and livestock, however climate change and the economics of farming in Hawai‘i pose real challenges to success. Access to land, water, farm workers, post-harvest processing, and market distribution are all critical to support local farmers. Several proposals have been discussed for the North Shore that can be considered for the SCP. These include creating more market opportunities to sell locally grown produce, supporting traditional Native Hawaiian forms of agriculture, and helping local agriculture address climate change impacts.
